Volodarsky District is located in the western part of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The district borders the Vladimir and Ivanovo Regions, the Chkalovsky District, Balakhninsky District, Pavlovsky District, and Bogorodsky District Districts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, and the city of Dzerzhinsk.

Coat of Arms of Volodarsky District
The district's coat of arms takes the form of a quadrilateral, three-part heraldic shield with rounded lower corners, pointed at the base, and a gold border. The shield is divided per pall into silver, green, and azure. The upper part of the coat of arms features elements of the coat of arms of the Nizhny Novgorod Region: a depiction of a walking gules stag with six-tined antlers and black hooves on a silver field, signifying that the district is part of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Along the upper part of the left azure field are three green fir trees, beneath which are inverted crossed gold swords, with a round shield of the same metal over the swords. In the right green field is a gold windmill with four sails turned diagonally.
