Volodarsk is a town 50 km west of Nizhny Novgorod on the Seyma River, at Seyma station on the Nizhny Novgorod–Moscow railway. Population: 11,000. Administrative center of its district (0.7 thousand sq. km, 49,000 residents).
Founding
The town was formed from the villages of Seyma, Mysy, Olgino, Peredelnovo, and Lestanovo, which had existed since the 14th–18th centuries. It was named in 1920 in memory of the revolutionary M. M. Volodarsky. From 1932 it was the workers' settlement of Volodary; from 1956, a town. Industry began taking shape in the 1860s, with flour mills built by Bugrov.
Industry
Industry today is represented by flour-milling plants and the Seymovskaya poultry farm, which has won top honors.
