City Day, in official speeches the City's Birthday — an annual Nizhny Novgorod holiday celebrating Founding of Nizhny Novgorod.
Held every second Sunday of September. The weather at this time of year is usually warm.
Accompanied by a concert of invited pop stars at Minin Square.
Traditions
On City Day it is customary to transfer various valuable items to the city for public use.
Thus, on September 14, 2008, on the city's 787th birthday, Valentin Yefremov and Vladimir Isaychev presented Nizhny Novgorod with a painting by Moscow artist Viktor Prus, "A Unique Flight over Lake Baikal in the Hot-Air Balloon 'Holy Russia'."
