Prioksky District is one of the most ecologically clean and attractive districts of Nizhny Novgorod. It is located in the Upper Town part of the city, stretching along the Oka River, and borders Sovetsky District and Avtozavodsky District Districts of Nizhny Novgorod and the Kstovsky District and Bogorodsky District Districts of Nizhny Novgorod Region. The main thoroughfare is Gagarin Avenue.
Nature of the phenomenon
In every era, Prioksky District has been at the forefront of advanced technology — the shipbuilding enterprises of the merchant Kolchin and the radiotelephone plant of Siemens & Halske were the first harbingers of the future prosperity of manufacturers on the Oka. During the Soviet years, the district became a stronghold of radio electronics and the defense industry.
History
Prioksky District was established in 1935, when the reorganization of the City of Gorky created six districts in place of the four that had previously existed. At that time it was called Myzinsky.
In March 1936, by resolution of the Gorky Krai Executive Committee, it was renamed Voroshilovsky.
At that time the district consisted of the Old, New, Barrack, and Dacha settlements, Tolmachevka, Schelokovsky Khutor, the Tobolsk Barracks, and the settlements of Aleksandrovka, Dubenki, Krasnaya Zarya, and Sluda.
Since 1956 the district has borne its current name — Prioksky. It was formed through the reorganization of the Voroshilovsky and Zhdanovsky Districts of Gorky. Today the nearby villages of Olgino, Beshentsevo, Mordvintsevo, Blizhnee Konstantinovo, Lyakhovo, and Luch belong to Prioksky District.
Industry
Prioksky District today is home to long-established enterprises with preserved traditions and a rich history — OJSC NITEL, CJSC Concern Termal, OJSC MK Nizhegorodsky, FSUE Nizhny Novgorod Plant named after M.V. Frunze, FSUE NNIPІ Kvartz, FSUE FNPTS NIIIS, and FSUE NNIRT. It also hosts younger, newer manufacturers that have firmly set out on the path of economic growth for the district and the city — companies such as Klass Plus, Adonis, Mevako-Perfokom, BAM, and others.
Recreation
Prioksky District is home to Shveytsariya Park and Schelokovsky Khutor, where Nizhny Novgorod residents love to celebrate holidays, meet friends, and simply take walks. On the grounds of the Khutor there are several lakes where one can even swim.
