Beketov Street — begins at the Palace, running perpendicular to Gagarin Avenue, and extends to Vaneev Street in the area of Sovetskaya Square.
The street is named after Andrey Nikolayevich Beketov (08.12.1825 – 14.07.1902) — a professor, founder of the school of Russian botanical geographers, a follower of Darwin's teachings, and teacher of the noted biologist Kliment Timiryazev.
An educator, organizer and popularizer of science, public figure, morphologist, taxonomist, and botanical geographer. The founder of plant geography in Russia. Distinguished Professor and Rector of the Imperial Saint Petersburg University. Corresponding member and honorary member of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences.
Grandfather of the poet A. A. Blok.
A granite plaque with a commemorative inscription is located on building No. 20 on Beketov Street.
