Sechenovskiy District is located in the southeastern part of Nizhny Novgorod Region, bordering Krasnooktyabrskiy District and Pilninskiy District Districts of Nizhny Novgorod Region, as well as Mordovia and Chuvashia.

The district is home to a branch of Gazprom Transgaz Nizhny Novgorod LLC — the Sechenovskoye Linear Production and Dispatch Control Department (LPDCD), which is the district's primary budget-forming enterprise.
