Pilninsky District is located in the southeastern part of Nizhny Novgorod Region, bordering Krasnooktyabrskiy District, Sergachsky District, Spassky District, Vorotynsky District, Sechenovskiy District, and Chuvashia along the Sura River.
The administrative center of the district is the urban-type settlement of Pilna.
Industry
The district's leading sector is agriculture, specializing in dairy farming, grain production, and sugar beet cultivation. Industry in Pilna is represented by the following enterprises:
- JSC "Optiko-mekhanicheskiy zavod" (optical-mechanical plant); JSC "Albumin" (dairy plant);
- JSC "Nadezhda" (garment enterprise);
- Raipo (district consumer cooperative)
- Raipo branch "Khlebkombinat" (bakery combine)
- Pilninsky printing house, road organizations, construction companies, and a number of other enterprises.
Points of Interest
Pilninsky District has 32 historical and cultural monuments of local significance under state protection. Among them:
- Uspensky Church, village of Bortsurmany (1789);
- Church of John the Theologian, village of Kamenka (1779);
- The ensemble of historic buildings of the district town of Kurmysh. The village itself, founded in 1372, is included in the list of historically significant settlements of federal importance.
Local People
The village of Bolobonovo is the birthplace of composer Alexander Alexandrovich Kasyanov. The outstanding Russian musician and composer Sergei Mikhailovich Lyapunov also lived here until the age of eleven.
