Vorotynsky District

Vorotynsky District is located in the eastern part of Nizhny Novgorod Region, bordering Voskresensky District, Lyskovsky District, Spassky District, and Pilninsky Districts of Nizhny Novgorod Region, as well as the republics of Chuvashia and Mari El.

History

Vorotynsky District was established in 1929, when districts began to be formed in place of uyezds. Prior to the 1929 reform, the district was part of Lyskovsky Uyezd.

Attractions

The territory of Vorotynsky District contains approximately 85 protected historical and natural heritage sites (of regional, district, and federal significance). Among them:

Monument to Prince Vorotynsky. Author: Vladimir Nagornov, Honoured Artist of Russia and full member of the World Academy of Arts "New Era" (settlement of Vorotynets);
The workers' settlement of Vasilsursk, included in the list of historic towns of Russia (founded in 1523). Notable figures such as Levitan, Shishkin, and Gorky visited here;
The Kazan Church — the oldest in the district, dating to 1708 (Khmelevskaya Sloboda, near Vasilsursk);
The Holy Spring and Church of Archangel Michael, 1912 (the village of Semyany);
The estate of Prince Obolensky, second half of the 19th century (the settlement of Krasnaya Gorka);
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul, 1783 (the village of Shokino);
The Petrov House with blind carving in the village of Nadezhdino (19th century);
