Sechenovo (formerly Tyoply Stan) is an ancient Russian selo, founded by Ivan the Terrible in 1552 during his third campaign against Kazan.
From the history
In early August, the army of Ivan the Terrible halted, making its tenth encampment on the Medyanka River, not far from its source. The weather had been foul — rain fell and winds raged. Before this tenth stop, everything changed: the wind died down, and it became warm and sunny, so the army made camp for the night. Ivan the Terrible named the tenth stopping place Tyoploye Stanovishche (Warm Encampment), and from this came the full name Tyoply Stan. From the time the land was settled and peopled, it came to be called Teplostanskoye.
For four centuries, the Teplostanskoye land was included at various times in the Kurmysh and Alatyr uyezds of Simbirsk Governorate. In 1929, the Teplostansky District was formed as part of the Nizhny Novgorod Krai.
In the fourth year of the war, the idea arose of renaming Tyoply Stan as Sechenovo, in honor of the great Russian scientist and physiologist I. M. Sechenov, who was born on the Teplostanskoye land.
On November 24, 1945, the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR "On the Renaming of the District Center of Teplostansky District of Gorky Region" was promulgated.
