Shavurin Pyotr Ivanovich (1918–2002) — Hero of the Soviet Union, participant in the Great Patriotic War from its very first days. He defended the skies of Gorky from fascist aircraft, and on 27 August 1941, in the aerial approaches to The City of Gorky, performed a ram against a German aircraft. Over the course of the war he flew more than 350 combat sorties and shot down 17 enemy aircraft.
Achievements
Awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Red Star, and various medals.
The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Gorky" was conferred by resolution of the Gorky City Council of Workers' Deputies on 15 September 1977.
