Nizhegorodskaya Pravda — the most officially minded newspaper of Nizhny Novgorod Region, the central socially conservative online resource and news agency for reporting on the policies of the government of Nizhny Novgorod Region. The newspaper's founder is the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Region, and the paper positions itself as the region's socio-political and business publication.[1]
The newspaper was formerly known as "Gorkovskaya Pravda" and "Nizhegorodsky Kommunar."
The news agency "Nizhegorodskaya Pravda" is registered with the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Mass Communications, Communications, and the Protection of Cultural Heritage. Registration number IA № FS 52-3814R of 24 March 2008.
The newspaper currently comes out twice a week — on Mondays and Wednesdays: the Monday edition runs to 8 pages in A2 format (black-and-white, print run of 1,100 copies), while Wednesday's edition runs to 24 pages in A3 format (colour printing, average single-issue print run of 10,700 copies).[1] The newspaper serves as the official publication venue for normative legal acts of the Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, its ministries, and other executive authorities of Nizhny Novgorod Region.[1]

Conveys the views of the regional authorities to the population of the region — predominantly of retirement age — in an entertaining format. Distributed on a voluntary-compulsory basis throughout the districts of the region; in the regional capital it enjoys no market demand whatsoever.

"Nizhegorodskaya Pravda" is the official publication for normative documents and state procurement notices for Nizhny Novgorod Region. The newspaper actively cooperates with the Association of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, consistently covering the topics of economics, state procurement, and the labour market. In addition to official information, the newspaper is rich in articles on topical subjects of broad reader interest. Such targeted supplements as "Novy Plast," "Naukograd," "Rodnye Metry," "Imkho," the opinion columns "Views, Assessments, Conclusions," and dedicated pages such as "Investment Portrait of the Region," "Consumer Club," "Health Point," "The Law Is the Law," and others enjoy well-deserved popularity among readers. Historical background
The newspaper "Nizhegorodskaya Pravda" traces its history to the Nizhny Novgorod newspaper "Internatsional," which appeared in 1917; after it ceased publication, part of the editorial staff joined the editorial board of the newspaper "Krasnoye Znamya" ("Red Banner"), and subsequently, by a decision of the guberniya committee of the RCP(b), the publication appeared under the name "Volzhskaya Kommuna" ("Volga Commune") (1918).[1]
On 1 November 1918, the first issue of the daily newspaper Gorkovskaya Kommuna (newspaper))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))" appeared — the forerunner of "Nizhegorodskaya Pravda." It was the print organ of the Nizhny Novgorod Committee of the RCP(b) and the Nizhny Novgorod Guberniya and City Soviets of Deputies.
In October 1932, following Name Changes in Nizhny Novgorod The City of Gorky, the newspaper became known as the "Gorkovskaya Kommuna (newspaper)." In the 1920s and 1930s its pages carried material on collectivization, industrialization, and the construction of Molitovsky Bridge and the Nizhny Novgorod Automobile Plant. Non-staff worker and rural correspondents (rabkory and selkory), numbering in the hundreds, played a major role in preparing newspaper content.
From 1936 the newspaper became a regional publication.
In 1941 many members of the editorial staff went to the front; 13 of them fell in battle defending the Fatherland. During the war years "Gorkovskaya Kommuna" was published on two pages.
From 1951 the newspaper changed its name to "Gorkovskaya Pravda."
Many of the most prominent journalists subsequently moved to leading Moscow newspapers, while A. V. Romanov and V. A. Kuroyedov went on to become ministers in the USSR government.
In 1967 the newspaper widely marked its 50th anniversary and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour.
In October 1990, following the renaming of The City of Gorky back to Nizhny Novgorod, the newspaper became known as "Nizhegorodskaya Pravda."
After the events of August 1991 it ceased to be a party organ; its founder was initially the journalistic collective itself, and from 1993 — the state enterprise Nizhpoligraf" (until 1997), followed by the administration of Nizhny Novgorod Region.
