Molitovsky Bridge is a bridge across the Oka, located within Nizhny Novgorod. It connects the upper (Upper Town) part of the city with the lower (Zarechka) part. It is one of two bridges in Nizhny Novgorod open to Nizhny Novgorod tram.
Technical specifications
The bridge is 951.2 metres long and 21 metres wide.
The bridge carries two active tram lines.
History
It was opened on 5 November 1965.
In 1997–1999, a partial reconstruction of the bridge was carried out. The lighting poles (which also support the overhead contact wire) were relocated to the centre of the bridge, and a reinforced-concrete dividing strip was installed along the centre of the bridge.
Current condition
A major overhaul is required. A maximum vehicle weight restriction of 23 tonnes is currently in effect.
Oksky Descent
In 2008, plans were made to widen The Oka Descent while preserving the tram tracks. The widening was to be carried out toward the slope, with the installation of a retaining wall. The widening of Oksky Descent will be carried out with the tram tracks preserved.
