Metro Bridge — the newest bridge connecting the Lower and Upper Town parts of the city by means of a metro line and a medium-capacity road.
Background
Construction of the Metro Bridge in Nizhny Novgorod began in 1991. Work was soon suspended due to a lack of funding. It resumed in 1999, after which virtually all of the bridge's support piers were erected. Automobile traffic across the Metro Bridge over the Oka in Nizhny Novgorod was opened on November 4, 2009. Due to restricted traffic on the Kanavinsky Bridge, from April 4, 2010, Public Transportation was redirected onto the Metro Bridge. On November 4, 2012, the Metro Bridge began serving its primary purpose — connecting the two parts of the city by metro — and thus lived up to its name.
