Konstantin Borisovich Baranovsky (4 January 1970, Gorky — 29 June 2021, Nizhny Novgorod) was a Nizhny Novgorod journalist, economic commentator and political expert who specialized in business topics.[1] In the professional community he was widely known under the unofficial title of "humanitarian technologist."[2]

Education and early career

He graduated from the History Faculty of Lobachevsky University, as well as the School of Public Policy and the Moscow School of Political Studies.[1] He had worked in economic and political analysis since 1995.[3] From the same year he worked in journalism, rising from correspondent to editor-in-chief, and later to head and owner of media outlets.[4] Over the years he founded or relaunched more than a dozen media projects, including district and online outlets.[4] From 1997, alongside journalism, he also worked in public relations.[4]

Professional activity

He was published in leading Nizhny Novgorod outlets, specializing in business topics.[5] He was managing partner of the consulting group "Consiglieri" (Konsilyeri) and editor-in-chief of the youth publication "Lider XXI" (Leader XXI).[3] He was among the elders of the Nizhny Novgorod Marketers' Club, an expert at the Nizhny Novgorod Expert Club, and a member of the Russian Public Relations Association.[5] He served as co-chair of the regional political council of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Branch of "Solidarnost" ("Solidarity").

He taught at the School of Business Journalism under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Nizhny Novgorod Region, and also taught a PR course at Volga-Vyatka Academy of Public Administration (now the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management, RANEPA).[4] He authored professional books and publications, including "Financial Journalism. Money Talks," "Financial PR. Prselling Money," "Business Internet Journalism," and "Cryptocurrencies. Risks, Challenges and the Future."[4] He was also the author of the course "Fundamentals of Journalism" and of publications in the journal "Zhurnalistika i mediarynok" (Journalism and the Media Market).[3]

Awards and recognition

In 1997 he won the Volga-Vyatka Contest of Economic Journalists.[3] In 2010 he was awarded the Nizhny Novgorod city administration's "Golden Shark" award.[5] According to the Nizhny Novgorod banking award "Golden Elephant", he was twice recognized as the best financial journalist of Nizhny Novgorod Region — in 2010 and 2013.[5]

Death

He died on 29 June 2021: his body was found showing no signs of life in his apartment, with the preliminary cause of death being cardiac arrest.[3] This was reported by his former wife Yulia Baranovskaya on her Facebook page.[2] The farewell ceremony took place on 2 July at the Nizhny Novgorod crematorium at Zaytseva Street, 27.[3]
