This word has several meanings.
- Gorky (bitter) taste — one of the basic tastes. Bitterness, like sweetness, is perceived through G-proteins. Historically, a bitter taste was associated with an unpleasant sensation and, possibly, with the health risks of certain plant products (most plant alkaloids are simultaneously toxic and bitter). In the feng shui system, bitter taste is associated with the primordial element of Fire.
- Gorky — the pen name of the great Russian Soviet writer, a native of Nizhny Novgorod, founder of socialist realism and the Union of Soviet Writers, A.M. Peshkov. He is known both as Maxim Gorky and as Maxim Gorky (i.e., "maximally bitter").
- Gorky — a socionic type, the logical-sensory introvert. Interesting facts: Stalin and Putin are "Gorkys."
- Gorky (City of Gorky) — the name of Nizhny Novgorod during the Soviet era, from 1932 to 1990. In foreign literature: Gorky.
