Bolshemurashkinskiy District is located on the right bank of the Volga River River and is one of the central districts of the southeastern part of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. To the north it borders the Kstovsky District and Lyskovsky District Districts, to the south the Buturlinskiy District and Perevozsky District Districts, to the east the Knyagininsky District District, and to the west the Dalnekonstantinovsky District District.
The administrative center of the district is the settlement of Bolshoe Murashkino.
Past and Present
Bolshemurashkinskiy District was established on June 29, 1929. The first chronicle mention of Bolshoe Murashkino dates to 1377, which is officially considered the year of its founding.
From 1478 onward, Murashkino developed leather tanning, sheepskin and fur production, and potash production (potash — ash used for tanning hides). The fur industry reached its peak in the mid-19th to early 20th century. Murashkino fur manufacturers participated in numerous international exhibitions, where they received gold and silver medals for the quality of their furs.
Today, Bolshemurashkinskiy District is a developed industrial and agricultural district with a rich cultural heritage.
The district is home to enterprises in trade, road transport, communications, and housing and utilities services, as well as individual entrepreneurs engaged in retail trade, paid services, and other activities.
Industry
- JSC "Bolshemurashkinskaya Fur Factory", engaged in the dressing of sheepskins and the manufacture of fur products and workwear, including for law enforcement agencies.
- CJSC "Bolshemurashkinskaya Garment Factory", engaged in the production of sewn goods for consumer purposes.
- MP "Bolshemurashkinskaya Typography", engaged in the production of printed matter (newspapers, forms, and the like).
- JSC "Bolshemurashkinskaya Selkhoztekhnika", engaged in the repair of agricultural machinery engines and the manufacture of parts.
- The bakery of the Bolshemurashkino district consumer cooperative produces bakery products and non-alcoholic beverages.
- LLC "Dorozhnik-2" produces asphalt concrete mix for road construction.
Sights
The territory of Bolshemurashkinskiy District contains more than 40 cultural and architectural monuments of regional and local significance, including 19th- to early 20th-century merchant mansions, the ensemble of the Pokrovskaya Edinoverie Church, the Voznesenskaya Church, and the ensemble of the Trinity Church.
