Perevozsky District is located in the southeastern part of Nizhny Novgorod Region and borders Dalnekonstantinovsky District, Bolshemurashkinskiy District, Vadskiy District, Buturlinskiy District, and Shatkovsky District Districts.
History of founding
Perevozsky District, within its current boundaries, was established by a decree of the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of the RSFSR dated January 25, 1935. It is considered an agricultural district.
The history of its lands stretches back to the distant past. According to ancient tradition, in 1377 the famous "drunken battle" took place on the Pyana River near Perevoz — a battle against the Tatars. The troops of Ivan the Terrible passed through here on their campaign against Kazan. By the end of the 18th century, the settlement of Pyanskoye Perevoz had grown so large that it was granted the status of a non-administrative town. Its inhabitants were engaged exclusively in farming and the weaving of nets for the Caspian fishing industry.

Ichalkovskiy Bor — a tract of pine and mixed forests and oak groves on karst sinkholes and limestone outcrops.
