Social Rehabilitation Center for Minors "Nadezhda"
| Users of the LiveJournal community "Charitable Assistance for Fire Victims in Russia" have discovered that items which kindhearted people donate for fire victims do not always reach their intended recipients.
Nizhny Novgorod bloggers report that one such suspicious collection point has set up shop at a certain "Social Rehabilitation Center for Minors 'Nadezhda'." "When I found out they were collecting items for fire victims, I immediately became curious about what kind of generous people these were, so I went to the collection point," LiveJournal users write. "I watched people bringing everything from baby onesies to household electronics. Then I noticed the following situation: in the evenings, small vans periodically pull up to the home of the center's director and begin unloading boxes marked 'SOCIAL AID NADEZHDA.' The brave blogger-girl did not stop at these observations and, under the pretext of bringing assistance, went to the said center, where she 'witnessed in person how a portion of the aid was being divided on the spot among the participants of the operation. While I was there, 2 LCD televisions, 8 laptops, 5 camping tents, and 3 sleeping sets were divided up. When I took out my camera to photograph all of this, it was confiscated, they shouted at me, and I barely managed to escape without injury — I only twisted my ankle on the way out." Nizhny Novgorod bloggers have now joined forces to conduct a thorough investigation of the suspicious center's activities with the help of law enforcement. |
