Torgovaya Street — runs between the Nizhne-Volzhskaya Embankment and Rozhdestvenskaya Street Street, in the area of the old Nizhniy Posad market. Its name preserves the memory of the largest marketplace in Nizhny Novgorod that operated here for centuries (in ancient times there were three such markets in the city), as well as a gostiny dvor (a trading arcade) in the form of a small log-built fortlet constructed in the 17th century. (The Flour Wing of the gostiny dvor, dating from 1780–1784, survives on Torgovaya Street and is an important historical and architectural monument of Nizhny Novgorod.)
