Novinki is a settlement in the south of Nizhny Novgorod, part of Prioksky District. In the 2020s it became known as the site of several large construction and urban development projects accompanied by public controversies.
Residential development and public spaces
The settlement is home to the Oksky Bereg residential complex, in the vicinity of which construction of a large logistics facility began in 2026. That same year, the municipal budget institution Nizhegorodgrazhdanproekt, together with specialists from PJSC DOM.RF and the Nizhny Novgorod Region Urban Development Institute, drew up a preliminary concept for a 6.5-hectare public garden in the settlement. The project won a ranked public vote under the federal programme "Creating a Comfortable Urban Environment" and was included in the implementation plan for 2027.
The Wildberries warehouse complex and the conflict surrounding it
In 2026, Ministry of Construction of the Nizhny Novgorod Region issued LLC RVB (the combined company Wildberries Russ) a permit to build a 150,000-square-metre warehouse complex in the settlement of Novinki, on the grounds of the Oksky Bereg residential microdistrict. The issuance of the permit was the culmination of a months-long conflict between the authorities, the developer, and local residents.
For at least ten years, the settlement of Novinki has been experiencing regular ground slippages that threaten private homes on the slope above the Oka River; in July 2026, a landslide left residential buildings on the edge of a precipice.[1]
Landslide-prevention measures that had been scheduled for 2022 had not been carried out by 2026, and the slope continued to erode.[1]
In August 2026, residents of the settlement appealed directly to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, via social media; as a result of the appeal, a criminal case was reopened and Bastrykin ordered that he be briefed on the progress of the investigation.[1]
