«Nizhegorodgrazhdanproekt» is a design institute (project organization) in Nizhny Novgorod specializing in the design of residential and civil buildings. The organization has existed since at least the 1970s: during the Soviet era it operated under the name «Gorkovgrazhdanproekt» and was later renamed following the restoration of the city's historical name. In the 2020s it functions as a municipal budgetary institution (MBU). MBU «Nizhegorodgrazhdanproekt» was registered on 18 October 2019 (OGRN 1195275052862); active-organization status was assigned from 17 April 2020. The founder is the city of Nizhny Novgorod, with the founding authority exercised by the Administration of the City of Nizhny Novgorod. The institution's registered address is: Nizhny Novgorod, Freedom Square, 1, premises 27; its primary activity under OKVED is architectural activities (71.11). The legal predecessors of MBU «Nizhegorodgrazhdanproekt» listed in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities are MP IRG «Nizhegorodgrazhdanniipro­ekt» and MP «Tsentrogradnn».[1]

Activities

The organization's main area of work is the design of residential and public buildings, as well as the development of urban landscaping concepts. In 2023, MBU «Nizhegorodgrazhdanproekt» developed a landscaping concept for the GAZ Cultural Centre; in July of the same year, representatives of the organization took part in the first public hearings on the development of that area, held at the GAZ Cultural Centre. In 2026, MBU «Nizhegorodgrazhdanproekt», together with specialists from PJSC DOM.RF and the Institute for Urban Development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, developed a preliminary concept for a 6.5-hectare public garden in Novinki (settlement); the project won a public rating vote under the "Forming a Comfortable Urban Environment" programme and was included in the implementation plan for 2027.[2]

Over the years, various Nizhny Novgorod architects and builders have worked at the organization. As of June 2026, the institution is developing territorial planning documentation for the construction of a Rodionova Street — a road from Gorky Street to Brinskiy Street along the Kova River, including the delineation of linear-infrastructure placement zones and the routing of the road with its principal parameters.[3] Architect Valery Viktorovich Nikishin, who graduated from the Leningrad Civil Engineering Institute in 1978, lists PI «Nizhegorodgrazhdanproekt» among his professional workplaces.[1] Mikhail Nikolayevich Romanov, a 1971 graduate of the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering in industrial and civil construction, worked at «Gorkovgrazhdanproekt» from 1971 to 1975 and later returned to the organization under its new name — «Nizhegorodgrazhdanproekt» — from 1987 to 1991.[2] Lyudmila Sergeyevna Smorodova also lists «Gorkovgrazhdanproekt» among her former workplaces.[3]
