«Lenskaya Smena» — a regional youth newspaper published in Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod). The publication operated at least from the late 1970s through the early 1990s; by the end of the Soviet period it was one of the main regional print outlets for a youth audience.

History and Editors

Vladimir Lapyrin worked at the newspaper on two separate occasions: from 1977 to 1979 he served as executive secretary, and from 1985 to 1989 as deputy editor-in-chief and subsequently editor-in-chief of Lenskaya Smena. In between — from 1979 to 1985 — he was the staff correspondent for Komsomolskaya Pravda covering the Gorky Region and several others, after which he returned to the editorial office in a leadership role. After leaving Lenskaya Smena, Lapyrin headed the regional television studio and later Birzha (business weekly).

Activities and Subject Matter

In February 2010, Lenskaya Smena, jointly with Komsomolskaya Pravda, published a piece about a resident of Bolshoe Boldino, Nikolay Libayev, who, according to the publication, possessed the ability to hold objects made of magnetic metals against his body. The article characterized the newspaper as a publication combining regional everyday life with coverage of anomalous phenomena; the source itself described Lenskaya Smena as "an exposé newspaper."

In the late 2000s, the editorial staff was reportedly involved, according to the city forum NN.RU, in an internet project allegedly connected to political circles in Nizhny Novgorod; employees were paid, according to the same source, around 10,000–15,000 rubles per month for this work.
