Frolishchi — a workers' settlement in Volodarsky District, Nizhny Novgorod Region. Until 1986 it was part of Dzerzhinsky District, Nizhny Novgorod Region.
Sights
The settlement of Frolishchi is known for its ancient (17th-century) monastery, the Svyato-Uspenskaya Florishcheva Hermitage, which suffered significant damage in the late 20th century. In 2005, restoration work on the monastery began. To date, the following have been restored: the gate church of Saints Peter and Paul; the warm Church of the Life-Giving Trinity with the adjacent brethren refectory cell; a 49-metre bell tower with newly cast bells and newly installed chiming clocks (striking the quarter-hours and every hour); the abbot's building; and the treasury building. Active restoration of the five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos and the storage building is underway. All other structures on the monastery grounds have been roofed over and cleared of debris in preparation for restoration.
