Viktor Bratanov (born August 8, 1955) — former Head of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Major General of the Militia (police), Candidate of Legal Sciences, awarded the Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" Second Class and the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
He began working in the internal affairs agencies in 1981. Virtually his entire career has been connected with the criminal investigation service. At the end of 2000, he was seconded to the administration of the President of Russia, where he oversaw the coordination of law enforcement agencies across the Volga Federal District. In December 2001, he was appointed First Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Volga Federal District.
On July 31, 2003, by Presidential Decree of Russia No. 854, he was appointed Head of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
