The Serafim Sarovskiy Spiritual and Educational Center is a three-story building in Diveevo, construction of which began in January 2021 and was completed by 2026. The center was built as part of the "Arzamas — Diveevo — Sarov" pilgrimage and tourism cluster and is among the key religious and cultural infrastructure facilities of the region.[1][2]

Construction and foundation laying

Construction of the center began in January 2021. The client is ANO "Management Company for the Development of the Sarov-Diveevo Cluster".[1] On April 24, 2021, when the building's foundation had been laid and the monolithic columns and basement walls erected, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, Gleb Nikitin, and Metropolitan George placed a capsule containing a foundation charter in the base of the building under construction.[1]

The three-story building includes studios for gold embroidery, icon painting, fine arts, the basics of bell-ringing, choral singing, and Orthodox architectural modeling, as well as a lecture hall on the history of Orthodox culture and accommodation rooms for 94 pilgrims.[1]

Role within the "Arzamas — Diveevo — Sarov" cluster

Construction of the center proceeded in parallel with other cluster projects: Orthodox Churches in Arzamas, the construction of the Holy Gates and the improvement of the adjacent square and road in Diveevo, and The Holy Dormition Sarov Hermitage.[2] At the foundation-laying ceremony, Dmitry Chernyshenko described Diveevo as an Orthodox center of global significance and called the spiritual and educational center a new focal point for pilgrims and tourists.[1]

Completion and current status

Governor Gleb Nikitin announced the completion of the center's construction to Patriarch Kirill's Primatial Visit to the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolitanate (2026) during his patriarchal visit to Nizhny Novgorod Metropolitanate. The meeting took place on August 1, 2026, in Diveevo, and was also attended by Igor Komarov, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District, and Archbishop George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas.[2] The visit coincided with the Serafimskiye Torzhestva — the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the second discovery of the relics of the Venerable Serafim Sarovskiy and Diveyevo Monastery.[2] At the same meeting the governor reported that, by 2026, Nizhny Novgorod Region.[2]

The 2026 Serafimskiye Torzhestva in Diveevo were also marked by another anniversary: the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Mill Community at Serafimo-Diveevskiy Monastery.[3]

During Governor Nikitin's report on the cluster at the meeting with Patriarch Kirill, it was clarified that construction of the monastery wall in Diveevo was continuing alongside the building of the center.[4]
