Narodnogo Edinstva Square — a square featuring a monument to Minin and Pozharsky, a scaled-down replica of the one standing on Red Square in Moscow. It is located on Zelensky Congress, at the foot of the The Kremlin, near the Church of John the Forerunner.
It is believed that the Nizhny Novgorod Militia assembled at this spot, and that Kozma Minin (full name: Kuzma Zakharovich Minich (Minin) nicknamed Sukhoruk) read his appeal to the The Peoples of Nizhny Novgorod here.
Choosing the name by democratic means
| The square in front of the Church of the Nativity of John the Forerunner is to be named Narodnogo Edinstva Square. This was the decision reached by deputies of the City Duma at a session on Wednesday.
The deputies were asked to choose between two proposed names: Narodnogo Edinstva Square and Sobornaya Square. Twenty-seven deputies voted for the first option and seven for the second.
