The Klochay House, Klochay Palace, the Palace of Inadequacy — a Meme referring to the residence of Klochay in the Historic Center of Nizhny Novgorod, on Pochaina opposite the Kremlin.
The essence of the phenomenon
The "Klochay House" is an estate enclosed by a three-meter stone wall, built in a Southern Colonial style, covering approximately 2,000 square meters.
It gained notoriety because discussions of the palace on the Nizhny Novgorod Internet are typically suppressed by methods disproportionate to the significance of such conversations — ranging from deletion of information without any reasonable explanation to threats of physical violence from so-called "security forces."
Interesting facts
- After construction was completed, the palace was abandoned by its owner.
- The area around the estate may contain the legendary source of the Pochaina river, famous for the belief that if the stone covering it is removed, Nizhny Novgorod will meet its end. Thus the Klochay estate is bound up with the archaic beliefs of the city's inhabitants and holds dominion over Nizhny Novgorod as a whole.
- An ordinary construction worker, outraged by the scale of the building work compared to the state of repairs at the city's museums, was subjected to systematic intimidation (archive) by the mysterious "Klochay's aide," as reported by the city newspaper Novoe Delo" and the city forums of NNRU.
