Osharskaya Square — was designed as a rectangle at the end of the street of the same name by A. A. Betancourt and V. I. Heste in 1823–1824. It takes its name from a tavern called "Oshara" that once stood here. V. I. Dal explains this toponym as "a thief, a petty thief, a drunkard, a vagrant and a ragamuffin; a swindler who robs drunks in taverns. A tavern on the outskirts, in the back of beyond."
Today the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Military Enlistment Office is located near the square. But this fact does not stop those dodging military service from spending their evenings drinking beer in the cozy Zhukov Square situated on the square.
