- Obkom — the regional committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union that operated in the city of Gorky during the Soviet period. It was the region's main party body: in particular, it served as the founder of official print publications — Gorkovskaya Pravda and the newspaper Gorkovsky Rabochy (now Nizhegorodsky Rabochy). Members of the CPSU obkom were elected from among the region's prominent public figures and representatives of the intelligentsia.
