The Nizhny Novgorod Commercial Institute (NKI) was a non-state institution of higher education in Nizhny Novgorod, operating presumably from the 1990s through the early 2000s. The institute was founded in 1993 and was located at Lenin Avenue, Nizhny Novgorod (postal code 603950).[1] The institute trained specialists in law, accounting, auditing, and the analysis of the financial and economic activities of enterprises.

Degree Programs and Graduates

Among NKI's known fields of study were law and accounting with auditing. In 1995, Viktor Valentinovich Portnov, who subsequently became General Director of ZAO Vektor, received a diploma from the institute combining a higher military education with a commercial one. In 2000, Valery Aleksandrovich Fadeyev, a deputy for Electoral District No. 24 in the city of Dzerzhinsk, graduated from the faculty of accounting, auditing, and analysis of the financial and economic activities of enterprises. At the height of the institute's activity, approximately 4,884 students were enrolled there.[3] Elena Vladimirovna Khlibko studied law at NKI; after graduating, she went on to postgraduate study, defended her dissertation, and was awarded the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences.

Among the institute's teaching and administrative staff was Nikolay Aleksandrovich Manakin, who also worked at Police Academy. The institute's state accreditation was confirmed by Order No. 475 of the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science (Rosobrnadzor), dated 07.03.2008, valid until 07.03.2013. The rector of the institute was Natalya Vladimirovna Sumtsova; the institute maintained its own website at www.nnki.ru and an email address of nki@nki.nnov.ru; office hours were Monday through Friday, 9:00 to 17:00, with a lunch break from 13:00 to 14:00.[4] The pro-rectors included Yuri Pavlovich Morozov (academic affairs), Nina Nikolayevna Kornyushina (distance and evening study), and Georgiy Vasilyevich Gruzdev (economic affairs). The institute was subsequently reorganized and, from 2012, became part of Lobachevsky University as the Institute of Economics and Entrepreneurship, and in 2024 was renamed the NNSU Institute of Economics.[2][1]

In addition to law and accounting, the institute offered programs in Economics, Finance and Credit, Commerce (Trade), Organizational Management, Crisis Management, and Applied Informatics.[1]
