Dzerzhinsk Polytechnic Institute is a structural subdivision of the R.E. Alekseev Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University (NGTU), located in Dzerzhinsk. The institute operates as a branch of NGTU, training technical specialists for the needs of Dzerzhinsk. The institute's history traces back to the correspondence-study consultation centers of the All-Union Correspondence Polytechnic Institute (VZPI), the evening department of the chemistry faculty, and the Dzerzhinsk evening faculty of the Gorky Polytechnic Institute; its emergence was driven by the acute need of rapidly growing industrial Dzerzhinsk for engineering personnel.[1] The institute was founded in 1974; according to the source's publication period, it had 1,841 students enrolled, and the institution itself ranked 1st among Dzerzhinsk's universities and 605th in the ranking of Russian universities.[2] The institute is located at: Nizhny Novgorod Region, Dzerzhinsk, Gaidara Street, 49.[2]

DPI is the only university in Dzerzhinsk training engineers: chemists, technologists, power engineers, programmers, and information systems specialists; over more than 52 years of operation, the institute has trained more than 16,000 highly qualified specialists working at enterprises, in science, and in business across the country.[3] The institute conducts fundamental and applied research in "green" chemistry, petrochemistry, polymer chemistry, and ecology; in 2025 staff received grants from the Russian Science Foundation, and projects by the institute's researchers were supported under the federal "Start" program.[3] The institute provides training in seven full-time programs and six correspondence programs; the institute's director during the period of the most recent graduation was Alexander Petrovsky.[4]

Leadership and structure

The director of the Dzerzhinsk Polytechnic Institute of NGTU is Viktor Fyodorovich Kulepov (born September 10, 1950) — Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor.[2] The position of deputy director for academic affairs has been held since 1992 by Mikhail Anatolyevich Fadeev (born November 2, 1950), Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor. Since 2001 the deputy director for marketing has been Alexei Ivanovich Pronin (born August 5, 1945), Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor.[4]

Connection with NGTU

The institute is part of the R.E. Alekseev Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University and is mentioned in the encyclopedia in connection with a number of NGTU faculty and staff. In particular, Stanislav Evgenyevich Nevsky — author of scientific and methodological works and inventions, honored worker of higher professional education of the Russian Federation — is associated with Dzerzhinsk Polytechnic Institute and Nizhny Novgorod Technical University.[3]
