In 2026, the Nizhny Novgorod Region submitted to the Legislative Assembly a draft of amendments to the regional budget for 2026 and the planning period of 2027–2028, providing for the allocation of 194.6 million rubles for the purchase and installation of a new load-bearing haulage rope. The haulage rope had sustained damage that ruled out its safe continued operation; the operating organization Urbantech Service began restoration work in late July 2026 after preparing a technical solution for the rope's restoration.[1] The need for rope replacement arose following an incident on 5 July 2026: in storm-force wind conditions, four cabins collided, and passengers were trapped in two others and had to be evacuated by rescue workers from height, after which the cable car suspended operations and Rostekhnadzor conducted an inspection, identifying violations.[1] The funds were intended to be directed as budget investments into the authorized capital of JSC "Nizhny Novgorod Cable Roads"; in return, the Nizhny Novgorod Region would receive state ownership rights to an equivalent share of the company's authorized capital. The Legislative Assembly deputies were expected to consider the amendments in late August 2026. Rostekhnadzor set a deadline of May 2027 for remedying the identified violations; the timeline for resuming the crossing's operations depends on the pace at which the operating organization carries out the work. Specialists anticipated completing the repairs in September 2026, after which the crossing between Nizhny Novgorod and Bor was to resume operations.[2][1]
