The Myza–Kstovo railway line is a planned suburban rail line 25 km in length that is intended to connect Myza Station in Nizhny Novgorod Kstovo the "City Commuter Rail" project. As of August 2026, the line is in the pre-construction preparation stage; work is scheduled to begin in 2027.[2][3]
Background and Project History
An agreement on the construction of the line was signed in August 2022 by Gleb Nikitin and Gorky Railway head Sergey Dorofeyevsky.[2] The project gained fresh momentum from the administrative merger of Kstovsky District into Nizhny Novgorod in 2025: the city became Russia's second largest by area after Moscow, which, according to Deputy Governor Sergey Morozov, imposed additional obligations regarding transport accessibility for the newly incorporated territories.[2] By that time Nizhny Novgorod already had a city commuter rail service operating on three routes, and the Myza–Kstovo line is viewed as an extension of that network.[2]
Parameters and Infrastructure
The project provides for the creation of a Kstovo Passenger transport interchange hub (rail + bus), the construction of a connecting rail loop near Royka station, and the reconstruction of infrastructure at Myza station.[2][3] Stops are planned at Ankudinivka Bolshaya Elnya along the route.[2] Travel time from Myza to Kstovo will be approximately 15 minutes with 12 train pairs per day.[3] The projected annual passenger load is 2.5 million people.[3]
Current Status
In August 2026, Sergey Morozov announced at the "Growth Points of Nizhny Novgorod Development: Territories, Money, Figures" conference that the federal government had backed the project and that construction was planned to start in 2027, with approximately two years allotted for completion.[3] Earlier, the possibility of transferring the Myza–Kstovo transport hub project to the National Wealth Fund had been discussed.[2] In parallel, the launch of bus route No. 100 along the same corridor is under consideration; however, as of early August 2026, no funding source for it has been identified.[1]
