The monument to Sverdlov is located in a small park at the corner of Bolshaya Pokrovskaya and Oktyabrskaya streets.

History of creation
Yakov Mikhaylovich Sverdlov was born in Nizhny Novgorod on May 23, 1885. In the early 1890s the Sverdlov family moved to No. 6 Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street. It was here that his childhood, youth, and development as a professional revolutionary took place. The question of erecting a monument to the revolutionary was first raised shortly after Ya. M. Sverdlov's death, at a session of the provincial executive committee in Nizhny Novgorod on April 27, 1920. However, the matter was postponed due to a lack of funds. In 1947, a memorial exhibition dedicated to Ya. M. Sverdlov was established in the former Sverdlov family home. In 1955, a design competition for the monument was announced.
Description of the monument
The authors created an expressive sculpture of Ya. M. Sverdlov as a young, energetic revolutionary — as he was seen in the early twentieth century on the streets of Nizhny Novgorod, at workers' meetings, and at Marxist study circle gatherings.
Unveiling of the monument
The monument was unveiled on November 5, 1957.
