Biography
Born on December 23, 1915, in Nizhny Novgorod (known as the City of Gorky from 1932 to 1991).
Graduated from the Repin Institute of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1944–1949), where he studied at the sculpture department. His graduation work at the Higher Academy of Arts was "Danko." He was awarded the title of sculptor-artist. His teacher was Viktor Aleksandrovich Sinaysky.
He worked in easel and monumental sculpture.
Member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 1943. Participant in regional exhibitions since 1942. He exhibited at the zonal exhibition ("Bolshaya Volga," 1964), republican exhibitions (Moscow, 1946, 1951, 1955, 1957, 1960, 1965), and all-union exhibitions (Moscow, 1957, 1961).
Works
Monument to Sverdlov On November 5, 1957, a monument to Sverdlov was unveiled in the city of Gorky, in the square at the corner of Sverdlov and Oktyabrskaya Streets. Sculptors Gusev Pavel Ivanovich and N. M. Chigurin created a granite portrait of Yakov Sverdlov, having won the competition announced for the creation of the monument.
Bas-relief to Dobrolyubov Minin and Pozharsky Square, 7/1. N. A. Dobrolyubov – [04.11.2008 23:50:20] "In this building, the former Nizhny Novgorod Theological Seminary, the revolutionary democrat and outstanding literary critic Nikolai Aleksandrovich Dobrolyubov studied from 1848 to 1853." A marble plaque with a bronze bas-relief portrait of the writer. The first memorial plaque was installed in 1935, replaced in 1959; a new one was unveiled in 1986. The author is sculptor N. M. Chigurin; the bas-relief was cast at the Dvigatel Revolyutsii plant.

Monument to the Nizhny Novgorod Marxists In 1901, Iskra reported that a group of Marxists in N. Novgorod "had adopted the name of the party committee." In memory of V. I. Lenin's meetings with the Nizhny Novgorod Marxists, a commemorative stele was erected in 1971 in the city center at the corner of Sverdlov and Vorobyov Streets (sculptors L. F. Kulakova and N. M. Chigurin, architect G. B. Shirokov).
After the sculptor's death, the Union of Artists seized his studio. The works stored there were discarded (those that were too large to move). His son managed to preserve some of the works at his home.
