Kstovsky District is one of the large, highly developed industrial territories of Nizhny Novgorod Region. The administrative center is the city of Kstovo.
It was established on June 10, 1929. Its area is 122,500 hectares, or 1.6% of the total area of Nizhny Novgorod Region.
The population is 111,800 people — 3.3% of the Region's total population.
The territory of Kstovsky Municipal District includes the urban settlement of the city of Kstovo and 14 rural settlements comprising 119 rural localities.

In the selo of Veliky Vrag in Kstovsky District stands the Church of the Kazan Mother of God — a unique historical monument that has survived to this day since 1792.
