Gorbatov is a town in Pavlovsky District on the bank of the Oka (a river landing) 45 km from the district center. The distance to Vorsma station is 12 km. The smallest town in the Region, with 4,000 residents.

About the town
The town originated in the 16th century; its former names include Meshcherskaya (after the Meshchera people), Porosl, and the village of Gorbataya. It received its current name from Prince A. Shuisky-Gorbaty, who owned it. It became a town in 1779. It was known for rope-making cottage industry, local cherry varieties, and a breed of cattle developed here — the Krasnogorbatovskoye breed. Near the town lies a resort area with recreation centers and boarding houses. There is a local history museum.
Today it is a popular leisure destination.
Gorbatov is renowned for its orchards (predominantly cherry, from which the Gorbatovskaya, or Roditelskaya, cherry variety spread widely).
Industry
The town has a rope and cord factory, branches of an embroidery factory and the Pavlovo Souvenir Plant. Folding knife production is also well developed.

Approved on 16 August 1781. Description of the coat of arms: "In the upper part of the shield, the Nizhny Novgorod coat of arms: a red deer on a white field, with black antlers and hooves. In the lower part — an apple tree with fruit on a golden field, as a token of the abundance of these fruits."
