Gershman, Boris Nikolayevich (June 4, 1924, Nizhny Novgorod — Gorky) was a Soviet physicist, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1961), Professor (1964), and a specialist in the propagation of electromagnetic waves in plasma and ionospheric physics. The Great Patriotic War. The greater part of Gershman's scholarly and teaching career was associated with Lobachevsky University, where he worked from 1950 to 1989.[2]
Scholarly Activities
In 1950, Gershman graduated from the Faculty of Radiophysics, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod of Gorky State University and subsequently enrolled in its postgraduate programme.[2] From 1953 to 1989, he worked in the Department of Radio Wave Propagation at GSU named after N. I. Lobachevsky, holding in succession the positions of assistant lecturer, associate professor, and department head (1960–1980).[2] Concurrently, from 1960 to 1989, he was affiliated on a part-time basis with the Radiophysical Research Institute (NIRFI)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))).[2]
His research interests encompassed the kinetic theory of electromagnetic waves in plasma across a broad frequency range, the dynamics of ionospheric processes, and current and gradient-current instabilities in ionospheric plasma.[2] He authored four monographs and more than 100 scholarly articles.[2]
Service in the Great Patriotic War and Awards
Boris Gershman was a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. In 1985, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st Class (April 6, 1985).[2]
Legacy
He lived and worked in Gorky; Bugrovsky Cemetery.[2]
