The Alekseyev Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoil Ships is a Nizhny Novgorod Gorky on the basis of Rostislav Alekseev, begun Krasnoye Sormovo Plant The Great Patriotic War. The bureau specializes in the design of high-speed vessels: hydrofoil ships and ekranoplans; its production facilities are located Chkalovsky District.[1]

Activities

The bureau designed the world's first serial passenger hydrofoil vessels, as well as all Soviet combat ekranoplans. The lead vessels of each series were built at the Krasnoye Sormovo Plant; serial production is carried out directly at the bureau's production site in Chkalovsky District of Nizhny Novgorod Region.[1]

Rostislav Alekseyev — founder of the bureau

The bureau bears the name of its founder and chief designer — Rostislav Yevgenyevich Alekseyev (18 December 1916, Novozybkov, Chernigov Governorate — 9 February 1980, Gorky), a Soviet naval architect, creator of hydrofoil vessels, ekranoplans, and ekranolyots, as well as a yacht designer and USSR Master of Sport.[1]

In 1935, Alekseyev enrolled in the shipbuilding faculty of the Gorky Industrial Institute named after Zhdanov (now the Institute of Transport Systems at NSTU). On 1 October 1941, he defended his thesis on the subject "A Hydrofoil Glider," earning the title of naval engineer. The examiner, Professor M. Ya. Alferyev, praised the project highly and noted the desirability of its practical implementation — the hydrofoil boat A-4 was built by Alekseyev in 1943.[1] After graduating, Alekseyev was assigned to the Krasnoye Sormovo Plant, where from 1942 he conducted research in the field of hydrofoil vessels.[1]

Alekseyev was a laureate of the Stalin Prize, Second Class (1951), the Lenin Prize (1962), and the USSR State Prize (1984), as well as a Doctor of Technical Sciences (1962) and a member of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) from 1950.[1]
