Bust of Academician N.N. Bogolyubov. The monument is located in Nizhny Novgorod, on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, in the small park by No. 37. The area in front of the building is paved with slabs; at its center stands a two-stepped stylobate of polished red granite blocks, upon which rises a pedestal bearing the bust of mathematician, theoretical physicist, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and twice Hero of Socialist Labor N.N. Bogolyubov (1909–1992).

History of Creation

Nikolay Nikolayevich Bogolyubov was born on 21 August 1909 in Nizhny Novgorod. The outstanding scholar spent his childhood here. In 1982, the city administration decided to erect a bust of Bogolyubov in front of the university's physics faculty building.

Description of the Monument

A bronze bust of N.N. Bogolyubov is mounted on an octagonal pedestal of red granite. A bronze plaque is set into the pedestal, bearing cast reliefs of two Orders of Lenin, two Gold Medals "Hammer and Sickle," and the inscription: "Hero of the Soviet Union, Academician Bogolyubov Nikolay Nikolayevich."

Unveiling of the Monument

The monument was unveiled on 18 August 1983. Faculty and students of Lobachevsky University) took part in the ceremony.
