syndroms.narod.ru — website of the Nizhny Novgorod music band SindroM, hosted on the free hosting service Narod.Ru and listed in the nn.ru directory as "Nizhegorodskaya gruppa 'SindroM'" (Nizhny Novgorod band "SindroM")[1]. According to the web archive, the site existed from 2003 to 2022[1].

What the site looked like and what it offered

Judging by the snapshot of the home page from October 2011, the site was organized as a feed of band news interspersed with discography sections. Entries in the feed were kept almost like a diary, down to everyday occasions: "our vocalist Katyusha had a baby boy yesterday... hooray, comrades!!!" (entry dated February 5, 2008), a message about a new bass combo amplifier (February 3, 2008), and on October 1, 2007 the home page carried a note that the band "now has an official 'VKontakte' page, where audio, photo and video materials of the band will be posted" — as the home page reported[2].

Sections of the site, listed in the menu and mentioned in the news, included "music," "tablatures and MIDI," "concerts," "albums," "lineup," "history," "friends," a guestbook, and a links section with button exchanges[2]. The discography page featured seven albums — "Opustosheniya" (Devastations), "V etom mire" (In This World), "Poteri realnosti" (Losses of Reality), "Voyny" (Wars), "Sindrom" (Syndrome), "Pokhmelny" (Hungover) and "V ekstaze" (In Ecstasy) — with tables for each song, where text files, guitar tablatures in gp4 format, MIDI versions and MP3s (some files up to 2.3–2.6 megabytes) and video files in MPG format were posted for some of the tracks[2]. The band's contact address was listed as syndroms@narod.ru[2]. The earliest surviving snapshot, from April 2003, captured only a short title page with the name "SindroM" and no extended text — it appears the site was just launching at the time[3].

Concerts and place in the Nizhny Novgorod music scene

Posters on the home page show that SindroM regularly performed at Nizhny Novgorod rock and metal venues alongside other local bands. On the poster for May 27 (club "Pyaty Element" ["Fifth Element"], the "Povolzhye" metal festival), the band was listed together with Damien, Diversia, Drauggard, Gmork, Surgeont, Thanfall — all marked "n.novgorod" — as well as with Vyksa (disambiguation), Bor and Arzamas[2]. On the poster for the "Chugunny Slon" ["Cast-Iron Elephant"] rock festival, "Sindrom (Nizhny Novgorod)" is listed alongside the Nizhny Novgorod bands Hallgrim and Buzz Fiction and bands from Vyksa, Murom, Arzamas, Bogorodsk and Bor[2].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

The site was listed in the nn.ru directory (the "/rub/" section) under the name "Nizhegorodskaya gruppa 'SindroM'" (Nizhny Novgorod band "SindroM") and took part in the Counter.nn.ru measurements: according to the census, its counter-sample rating was 46.0, and its composite score was 51.5[1]. No votes for the site are recorded in the surviving data of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day for 2004 in our sample[1]. For more on the counting methodology, see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating; the site was part of the overall picture of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet of that era as the page of a local music band on free hosting.

How it closed

Updates to the site can be traced up to entries from 2007–2008; later substantive snapshots are absent from the material. By March 30, 2022, the saved version of the home page was already empty, with no title, description or text — as that snapshot reported[4]. The last snapshot of the domain recorded in the web archive is dated October 5, 2022[1]; the material contains no information about the domain moving to another address.
