f1.nncity.ru was a defunct Nizhny Novgorod website devoted to Formula 1: according to the description in the nn.ru directory, it published "track descriptions, team rosters, race reports, and other Formula 1 information"[1]. The site was listed in the "/rub/" section of the nn.ru directory under the name "Formula 1 в Нижнем Новгороде" and held a rating of 14.0 in the Counter.nn.ru system[1]; our data contains no information about votes cast for it.
What is known about the content
No direct captures of the page's actual Formula 1 materials have survived in the web archive. The earliest web-archive capture of the domain is dated 23 July 2001, but its content is not preserved in our data; among the captures with known content, only service pages of the hosting provider Infobox.ru could be recorded, appearing on the domain instead of content at various times. On 5 March 2004, f1.nncity.ru displayed a "New site on Infobox" splash screen stating that "the site is hosted on a server of the hosting company INFOBOX.ru," naming the server srv003 and the support contact address admin@infobox.ru[1]. The design and text of this page belong not to the Formula 1 project but to the hoster — it offers no basis for judging what the section on tracks, team rosters, and race reports promised in the directory description actually looked like.
Place in the The Internet
The site's appearance in the nn.ru directory and its assigned rating of 14.0 in the counter.nn.ru system are the only documentary confirmation that f1.nncity.ru was part of the Nizhny Novgorod internet rather than merely a registered domain[1]. For more on the mechanics of the rating itself and how the counter recorded Nizhny Novgorod sites of that era, see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating and the article on the Nizhny Novgorod Internet as a whole.
How the site closed
By 29 August 2006, the domain f1.nncity.ru no longer even showed the hosting provider's "new site" splash screen — instead, the web archive recorded an error page from the same provider, Infobox.ru: "Cannot find site on server srv011.infobox.ru," that is, "the site was not found on the server"[2]. The placeholder page offered the hoster's standard set of explanations — a typo in the address, a site not yet created in the control panel, a recently added domain name, or a web-server configuration fault — but none of these is confirmed by the material[2]. The last web-archive capture of the domain is exactly this error page; the material contains no information about the site being moved to another address.
