In 2003, a traditional fair was held in Nizhny Novgorod. On that day, thanks to the local fat-and-oil plant, the city acquired a new sculptural composition — the "Spoon of Taste." The monument, three meters tall and weighing three tons, takes the form of a spoon bearing a green olive, mounted on a pedestal of nine cylinders whose shape and arrangement recall organ pipes.
The composition was created not only by professional architects and blacksmiths, but also by all the Nizhny Novgorod residents who came to the Nizhny Novgorod Yarmarka bringing spoons. Participants in the construction who placed their spoons in the pedestal's cylinders received personalized certificates acknowledging their personal contribution to the history of the monument's creation.
The whimsical monument stands in the garden square of the philology faculty of Lobachevsky University.
