Pokhvalinsky Descent (formerly Oksky, Komsomolsky) — runs from Maslyakova Street down to Kanavinsky Bridge.
Along Gremyachy Ravine to Kanavinsky Bridge In the mid-19th century, Khramtsovsky wrote that "the Pokhvalinsky Descent begins alongside Pokhvalinskaya Street and ends at the square by the Kunavinsky ferry crossing. It was laid out along a ravine known in olden times as Gremyachy: both the ravine and the hill bore the name Gremyachy after a spring that flowed through the ravine and made a noise — it babbled quite loudly. At the foot of the descent stands a chapel of St. Alexis the Metropolitan." This chapel has not survived to the present day. The Pokhvalinsky Descent connected the lower part of the city with Grebeshok, Bolshie Ovragi, and the Yamskaya streets. In the Grebeshok area, the Nikolsky and Grebeshkovsky descents also ran downhill: the first from the western side of the Blagoveschensky Monastery, the second from a vodka distillery. Both of these descents, however, were inconvenient according to Khramtsovsky, and today they are virtually unknown to Nizhny Novgorod residents.
