The Nizhny Novgorod funicular, which ran from the Kremlin to Skoba, was dismantled as early as the late 19th century due to unprofitability.

At the time, it was the only form of public transport connecting the upper and lower parts of the city. The first Nizhny Novgorod tram did not appear until several years later. Today, this is barely mentioned even in serious works on the history of Nizhny Novgorod.
