The Shchelokov Estate is a historic manor complex at 10 Studenaya Street in Upper Part. The house originated in the 1820s as a timber structure; in 1899 the property passed to honorary citizen M. N. Shchelokov, who undertook an extensive reconstruction, and by 1900 the wooden building had been replaced by a semi-masonry house. In the 2020s the estate's main house stands vacant and awaits restoration.[1]

History

The estate on Studenaya Street appeared in the 1820s as a timber structure and remained so until the end of the nineteenth century.[1] In 1899 the property was transferred to honorary citizen M. N. Shchelokov, who immediately set about rebuilding the estate. By 1900 the wooden house had been replaced by a semi-masonry one.[1]

Revolution the estate was converted into housing and divided into several apartments. In the 1990s the service wing of the complex was transferred to the Catholic community and converted into a church.[1]

Current Condition

By the 2020s the estate's main house stands vacant. Nizhny Novgorod Region have set a deadline for the object's restoration: repair and restoration work is to be completed by June 2029. In 2023, as part of the preparations for restoration, specialists carried out laser 3D scanning of the manor house and the annex, built three-dimensional models of the buildings, digitally reconstructed missing stucco elements, and drew up plans for the restoration of the heritage site. The restoration of the estate is being handled by the autonomous non-profit organization of the Nizhny Novgorod Region government, the Agency for the Preservation and Development of Historic Environment Objects (ASIRIS); as the cost of the work is high, the agency plans to attract a private investor. Alongside the search for an investor, landscaping of the estate garden was scheduled for 2024: plans called for planting fruit trees and shrubs, lilac, spruce, climbing plants, and perennial flowers, as well as repairing the pathways and installing lanterns, gazebos, and planters.[2][1]
