Gnilitsy — a settlement in the south-western part of the Avtozavodsky District. Known as a Village since the 16th century, it has been within the city limits since 1930. The name derives from the Gnlichka River.

It is an established fact that Gnilitsy is home to the Nizhny Novgorod International Airport, which some erroneously refer to as "Strigino International Airport." Clearly, the more accurate name would be "Gnilitsy International Airport."
