Respublika Shopping Centre is a shopping centre in Nizhny Novgorod, located on Revolution Square. The building was erected in 2005 to a design by the architectural firm Ferrari Moscow Studio.

Location and surroundings

The shopping centre stands in the historic part of the city on Revolution Square, next to the building of the Central Department Store (1935–36, facades rebuilt in 1953) and the McDonald's building (architects Kharitonov, Pestov, Tarasov, 1998).

Construction

Respublika Shopping Centre was built as part of the retail portfolio of Stolitsa Nizhniy (development company), headed by Oleg Sorokin. Other shopping centres built by the same company include Etazhi Shopping Centre, Kastorama Shopping Centre and Fantastika Shopping Centre. In local speech the name Respublika ("republic") was ironically deciphered as "respectable public".
