rosaa.r52.ru is the website of the Nizhny Novgorod company OOO "ROSAA," an auto repair shop that serviced ZMZ-406 and VAZ-2111 family engines[4]. As the home page put it, this was a "vehicle maintenance station in Nizhny Novgorod (STO)"[2] (original spelling preserved). The site was hosted in the r52.ru domain and was hosted there as well — the page carried the line "Hosting r52.ru"[1], the copyright notice dated from 2001[1], and the last home-page snapshot in the web archive is dated May 14, 2010[3].
What survives of the home page
The web archive has handed down a sparse trace; our sample includes three snapshots of the home page — from 2003, 2005, and 2010. In the 2003 snapshot the home page text consists of the heading "OOO \"ROSAA\"," a long list of keywords, the line "© 2001 OOO \"ROSAA\"," and two service credits — "Coding by Info-online" and "Hosting r52.ru"[1]. The first, apparently, names whoever handled the site's technical side; the second, the platform it was hosted on.
By February 2005 the heading had been rewritten: instead of the bare company name it now included both the city and the line of business — "OOO \"ROSAA\" — vehicle maintenance station in Nizhny Novgorod (STO)"[2]. The keyword list remained unchanged, while the service credits had disappeared from the text[2]. None of these three snapshots carries a shop address, phone number, or price list[1][2][3].
A keyword list in place of a storefront
Most of the preserved text is taken up by a list of over eighty words, repeated twice on the page[1]. It opens with variant spellings of the city's name — "N.Novgorod, Nizhny, Novgorod, NN, N.Novgorod, Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast" — and includes a misspelling of the company name, "rossa"[1]: the list, it appears, was compiled with an eye to search engines and to visitors who might type the name imprecisely.
Next comes the shop's vocabulary: "injector," "fuel injection," "contactless ignition" (as spelled in the original), "hydraulic lifter," "fuel pump," "nozzle," "thermostat," "starter," "bearing shells," "wiring harness," and, alongside the words "sensor" and "sensors," the abbreviations "dmrv," "dpdz," "dpkv," "dstm" (lowercase, as in the original)[1]. The list closes with a row of names: GAZ, VAZ, Zavolzhye, ZMZ, BOSCH, ElKar, SOATE, Pegas, YARTI[1]. The set matches the description found in the directory: ZMZ-406 engines, electronic fuel injection, BOSCH equipment[4]; the same list also carries the words "auto parts store" and "spare parts"[1].
A place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet
In June 2002 ROSAA was listed in the automotive category of the nn.ru directory — "a directory of Nizhny Novgorod sites" — with the description "ROSAA auto repair shop — maintenance of ZMZ-406 and VAZ-2111 family engines"[4]. Its "Rating" column read "none": no points were recorded against the site, while the top of the same category listed the firm VOLGA TRADE with 1,226 points, AvtoSpetsSbyt with 1,203, and the firm TSS with 921[4]. The domain does not appear in the surviving samples of the Counter.nn.ru counter either, and it is not listed among the published results of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day vote for 2004[5].
Such was the mass, invisible layer of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet: a company's calling-card page that made it into the city directory but took part in neither the traffic ranking nor any contests. The full body of such addresses is examined in the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating.
How it closed
By May 14, 2010, the page had been reduced to two lines: the heading about the vehicle maintenance station in Nizhny Novgorod, and the copyright line "© OOO \"ROSAA\"," now without a year; the keyword list had disappeared from the text[3]. This snapshot marks the end of the address's recorded history: in the web archive's index the address is listed from March 2001 through May 14, 2010, with no later copies. At the time this entry was compiled, the domain rosaa.r52.ru no longer exists.
