neva.r52.ru was the website of Neva LLC, a Nizhny Novgorod company that traded in tractors, municipal and construction machinery, mounted implements, diesel engines, and spare parts for them. The site lived in the Nizhny Novgorod domain zone r52.ru, and its design and hosting, judging by the signature in the footer of the home page, were provided by the Nizhny Novgorod firm R52.RU: "Web Design by: R52.RU, Hosting: R52.RU"[1]. The earliest surviving snapshot of the home page is dated 2 June 2002[1], the last one 19 December 2009[4].

What the home page looked like

The home page was a signpost-style showcase: nearly all of its surviving text is a heading and a list of sections. The window title read "Neva: tractors, municipal and construction machinery"[1]. Below it, as the home page reported, came a menu of eight items typed in capital letters: "VTZ, LTZ, MTZ TRACTORS", "MUNICIPAL MACHINERY ON TRACTOR CHASSIS", "TRACTOR DIESEL ENGINES", "MOUNTED IMPLEMENTS FOR TRACTORS", "SPECIAL-PURPOSE MACHINERY", "SPARE PARTS FOR TRACTORS AND ENGINES", "REPAIR OF TRACTORS, MUNICIPAL MACHINES AND ENGINES", "FULFILLMENT OF WARRANTY OBLIGATIONS"[1]. The same list was repeated a second time on the page, this time in lower case and in abbreviated form — "Repair and fulfillment of warranty obligations" instead of two separate lines[1].

A separate line gave "directions"[1] — meaning the firm had premises it invited buyers to visit; the address itself, the phone number, and the visitor counters are not legible in the preserved text of the snapshots, and the directions were apparently an image on a separate page. The copyright notice in 2002 and 2004 read "© 2002 Neva LLC"[1][2].

What Neva offered

The set of sections outlines a fairly narrow specialization: not a general machinery store, but a dealer in tractors of three makes — VTZ, LTZ, and MTZ — with everything that goes along with a tractor[1]. Listed separately were municipal machinery built on tractor chassis, special-purpose machinery, tractor diesel engines, and mounted implements[1]. The second half of the menu was not goods but services: spare parts, repair of tractors, municipal machines and engines, fulfillment of warranty obligations[1]. Such a combination of sales and service is typical of regional dealers for tractor plants that worked with agriculture and municipal utility services. In the directory listing on the nn.ru catalogue, from which the site made its way into our collection, Neva is described with the same set of features: tractors, municipal and construction machinery, mounted implements for agricultural work, engines and spare parts, service and warranty support, repair work.

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

Neva belonged to the most numerous and most inconspicuous layer of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet of the early 2000s: a corporate calling-card page for a local trading firm, custom-made by a local hosting provider and left unchanged for years. The domain neva.r52.ru does not appear in the results table of the 2004 Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day vote[5]; nor does it appear in the surviving samples of the Counter.nn.ru rating that we hold — sites of this kind were not usually entered in contests or counters, their audience being served instead by a phone number and that same set of directions. How it closed

Over the seven and a half years covered by the snapshots, the content of the home page did not change by a single line: in 2006 and 2009 it carried the same heading and the same eight-item menu as in 2002[3][4]. The only recorded edit was cosmetic: the year was dropped from the copyright notice, leaving "© Neva LLC", and at the same time the line about the developer and hosting disappeared[3]. In this form the site survived to its last snapshot on 19 December 2009[4]. There are no later snapshots of the home page in the web archive; today the domain neva.r52.ru does not respond, and no successor pages are known to us.
